The Fire ball is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest X. It is a red and gold-plated mechanical bird that was introduced as the rarefied monster version of the Clockwork cuckoo, which, according to their bestiary entry in X, are Clockwork cuckoos themselves that went out of control from overheating, though it's currently unknown since there were few sightings.
Characteristics[edit | edit source]
Fire balls are mechanical birds with spherical bodies made of gold, along with golden heads and wings, red head and tail "feathers", and copper-coloured articulated feet. Like the other robotic avians, fire balls are capable of converting their wings into deadly sharp blades and can also shoot out their feathers as if they are darts. True to their name, they can also set their opponents ablaze with a barrage of magical fireballs. When all else fails, they will self-destruct as a last resort.
Appearances[edit | edit source]
Dragon Quest X [edit | edit source]
Fire balls appear as rarefied monster versions of clockwork cuckoos starting in Version 1.4 of the game. They are capable of casting Kerfrizz, can attack with Birdcutter and Bird Slash skills, and can self-destruct to damage their enemies.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3[edit | edit source]
Fire ball makes its first appearance in the Monsters series as a B-rank monster of the Material family.
Dragon Quest Rivals[edit | edit source]
Fire ball was introduced in the 8th card pack, "Get Rich Quick! Casino Paradise" as a normal card exclusive for Warrior leaders.
Dragon Quest Tact[edit | edit source]

It can be scouted from Room #3 of the Ancient Scrapyard at any difficulty and it can participate in the Mindini hunter's Battle Road as a party member.
