Etymology[edit | edit source]

The monster's name is a pun on hyperborea, a mythical people of Greek legend whose name roughly translates to those who live beyond Boreas, with Boreas being the name of the deity for the northern wind. This is reflected in the monster's associated with tundra and avalanches.
