The Big badboon is a recurring monster in the series, first appearing in Dragon Quest II. It is a variant of the Badboon with a green coat of fur.
Description[edit | edit source]
Green great apes with purple faces and ears that prefer heavy foliage to fields. The main difference from their brown-furred cousins is their ability to call for backup to assist them in battle, but the apes will still flee when threatened. They made a reappearance in the series in IX after a 22 year absence.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Baboons are a genus of Old World monkeys known for the colourful markings on their face and posteriors, dog-like faces with sharp canine teeth, and short tails. Badboons are bulkier than their real world counterparts and their stature is closer to that of orangutans or gorillas.
- Contrary to their names in earlier localisations, big badboons are completely incapable of using any magic.
