The Black book is a monster that appears exclusively in the Nintendo 3DS version of Dragon Quest VII. It is a high-ranking variant of the Grimoire that possesses strong powers over darkness.
Characteristics[edit | edit source]
Black books are tomes animated through dark magic. Their covers have been slightly worn due to age and feature the design of a red eye surrounded by ritual markings. Opening the book reveals a wicked face with a fang-filled mouth that can bite opponents to cause confusion. Much like the other books in its family, black books can put entire parties of adventurers to sleep with spells and cast instant death magic. Any survivors will be finished off with their powerful fiery or icy breath unleashed from their maws. Those that defeat the books may be rewarded with wondrous seeds that give a considerable boost to the consumer's magic reserves.
