The Iron cuirass is recurring armour in the series. It is mid-ranking armour that can be equipped by a wider ranger of characters and vocations as it is not as cumbersome as a full suit of armour.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit | edit source]
The Iron cuirass has a Defence bonus of +25 and can be equipped by Harry, Sancho, Tuppence, Hero's daughter, Jailcat, Saber, Brownie, Orc king, Hoodlum, Archdemon, Gigantes, Battle pip, Conkerer, Small fry, Drag-goof, Great dragon, Dracky, Fat rat, Fandangow, Ticking timeburrm, Funghoul, Grudgerigar, Pocus poppet, Chimaera, Snowbird, Killing machine, Barbatos, Dwight, Starkers, and Revaulting horse.
It can be purchased from Fortuna, Lodestar Harbour, Hay, and Helmunaptra for 1,000 gold and sold for 500 gold. One can also be found in the Whealbrook Adit and another in the Scary Lair. Iron cuirasses can also be dropped by Metal slime knights, Pokespersons, Jiggery-pokerers, and Red-hot pokers.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit | edit source]
The Iron cuirass has a Defence bonus of +23, a Style bonus of +4, and can be equipped by the Hero, Carver, Milly, Ashlynn, Terry, Amos, Lizzie, and Goowain. It can be purchased from Wellshire and Amor in both the Lower World and Upper World for 1,000 gold and sold for 750 gold. One can also be found in the Moonmirror Tower and another in the Hallowed Hollow.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit | edit source]
The Iron cuirass has a Defence bonus of +26, a Style bonus of +4, and can be equipped by the Hero, Sir Mervyn, and Aishe. It can be purchased from Pilgrim's Perdition and Alltrades Abbey in the past for 2,000 gold and sold for 1,000.
- In the Nintendo 3DS version, it has a 1⁄64 chance of being dropped by Robo-robins.

The Iron cuirass has a Defence bonus of +25 and can be equipped by Yangus and Morrie. It can be purchased from Ascantha for 1,000 gold and sold for 500. It can be dropped by killing machines, robo-robins, and Buffalogres. The iron cuirass can be made in the Alchemy Pot and can also be upgraded into a Silver cuirass.

Dragon Quest X [edit | edit source]
The Iron cuirass has a Defence bonus of +11, a Style bonus of +3, increases the wearer's Weight by 11, and has an equipment level of 14. It can be equipped by Warriors, Priests, Thieves, Minstrels, Paladins, Rangers, Gladiators, Item Masters, Dancers, Demon Swordsmen, Pirates, and Armamentalists if they have allocated enough points into their Fource skill. In the Offline version of the game, it can also be equipped by Mjoll, Raguas, Hussar, and Duston.
Like many pieces of armour in X, the iron cuirass gained a counterpart for the legs slot. The entire set consists of the cuirass, a waistguard, a headband, armbands, and shin guards. It can be made by an armour blacksmith or with the Fun-Size Forge. If all five pieces are equipped, the wearer gains a +10 bonus to Style.
