The Lips is a beginner monster vocation in Dragon Quest VII.
Description[edit | edit source]
The Lips is a green slug monster with arms, large eyes, and is known for its oversized pair of lips. It gives a slight boost in Agility, but also has decreases that range from moderate to severe in all other categories. As a Lips, a character will learn various debilitating skills commonly used by the monsters. Mastering the vocation is required in order to become a Seasaur or a Delusionist.

Resistances[edit | edit source]
In the original Sony PlayStation version, a character that has become a Lips has a high resistance to instant death, sleep, dazzle, confusion, Fizzle, poison, and paralysis, as well as a slight resistance to Zap-type spells from ranks 1 to 7. At rank 8, they will have a higher resistance to Zap-type spells.
- In the Nintendo 3DS version, a character that has become a Lips is very susceptible to being stunned and is more susceptible to confusion and paralysis. They have a slight weakness to sleep, poison, Fizzle, Sap, and instant death spells. However, they will have a slight resistance to dazzle and Zap-type spells. Once again, they will have a higher resistance to Zap-type spells upon reaching rank 8.
Monster Heart[edit | edit source]
To become a Lips, a character must have a heart in their inventory and go to Alltrades Abbey to change their vocation. One Lips heart can found in a treasure chest at the Pillar of Sulkk in the present, while another can be found in the Mountaintop Tunnel in the present. The monsters have a 1⁄8 chance of dropping their heart, dropping down to 1⁄64 from the second onward.
- In the Nintendo 3DS version, it is also possible to acquire a Lips heart by creating a custom Traveller's Tablet with a Lips as the boss.
