The pickayune is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest IV. It is a mischievous, goblin-like monster with wings on its back.
Pickayunes are Humanoidmonsters with the appearance of orange-skinned children with a pair of white angelic wings on their backs. They have a huge pair of pointed ears, eyes with minuscule irises, a red shell-like growth on their heads, and a singular horn on the middle of their heads. The monsters wear purple togas and white sandals on their feet. They are more nuisances than true threats, failing to even cast a simple Dazzle spell due to their insufficient MP pools. When the pickayunes returned many years later in X, they gained the ability to breathe fire.
These demonic scamps like to live in gloomy spots. When adventurers arrive, they appear out of nowhere to serve up a generous serving of knuckle sandwhich
The pickayune appears as a C-rank monster of the Demon family during the True Dragon Quest IV event. It can be scouted from Chapter 1, Episode 4: Husband, Where Are You? of the event quests at any difficulty and it can participate in Healie's Battle Road as a party member.
A picayune (no K) is an old Spanish term that means "of little value" and to be "trivial". This association is derived from the coin of the same name, which was used from the 1700's to the mid 1800's in both Spain and the colonial United States until it lost it's legal tender status in the latter country in 1857.
