Poison Attack is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series. It launches a melee attack that may poison the target. Monsters first gained the ability to inflict Poison with their normal attacks in Dragon Quest II, eventually becoming its own skill that can be used by monster companions in Dragon Quest V.

Appearances[edit | edit source]

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit | edit source]

Poison Attack can be used by bubble slimes, cobra kaisers, cobra kings, gnashturtiums, killipedes, merluscs (NES version only), sentripedes, and walking corpses. Their attacks have a 25% chance of Poisoning a character.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit | edit source]

Poison Attack can be used by betterflies, bubble slimes, toxic toads, and toxic zombies.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit | edit source]

Poison Attack can be used by bodkin fletchers, bubble slimes, crested vipers, funghouls, horny devils, and wyverns.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit | edit source]

Poison Attack is learned by the funghoul at Level 7. It does not cost MP to use.

On the enemy side, Poison Attack can be used by bubble slimes, lesionnaires, and stenchurions.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit | edit source]

Poison Attack returns to being an enemy-only skill that can be used by bubble slimes, diethons, eveels, grim keepers, toxic turnips, toxic zombies, venom wasps, and walking corpses.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit | edit source]

Poison Attack can be used by bubble slimes, decayurions, frightcrawlers, ghouls gobblers, lesionnaires, pustules, stingfishers, toxic zombies, and walking corpses.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit | edit source]

Poison Attack can be used by bodkin fletchers, bubble slimes, death scorpions, devilmoths, eveels, scorpions, toxic zombies, venom wasps, walking corpses, and wild boarfish.

The Infamous Monsters who can use it are Sagittari and Scorpius.

Dragon Quest Monsters[edit | edit source]

Called PoisonHit in this game, this ability can be learned by various monsters. It requires the monster to be at least level 5, with at least 35 max HP, 30 ATK, and 30 INT. It is naturally learned by the Babble, Crestpent, KingCobra, MadHornet, Poisongon and Rayburn.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2[edit | edit source]

PoisonHit now requires 50 ATK and 90 INT to learn. It is naturally learned by the Catapila, Skulpent and Starfish.

Poisonous Poke can be learned from all the skills it could be previously, as well as from Canzar for 49 points.

Poison Attack is known naturally by bubble slimes, corpse corporals, king bubble slimes, morphean mushrooms and walking corpses at level 1, costing 12 MP to use. It inflicts 130% potency physical damage to a single enemy and has a chance to Poison them. It can also be taught to any unit by using an ability scroll, which is received as a reward for completing the seventh stage of the bubble slime's Battle Road.
