Cumauluses are small grey clouds with sinister human faces on them, capable of floating around like normal clouds. Its puffy features give the cloud's face the appearance of having chubby cheeks. They are also capable of dispersing their entire bodies and reforming them in order to attack. While not particularly powerful on their own, they can quickly become nuisances since they appear in large groups and can attack foes with fire magic. In X and Heroes II, the cumauluses instead gained the ability to manipulate lightning and cast Zap against opponents instead.
Cumaulus's name is play on cumulus clouds, which are puffy and cotton-like just like the enemy, and "maul", which means to damage seriously. The monster's Japanese name Gizmo is derived from Gaseous Lifeform Gizmo (ガス状生物ギズモ,,Gasu-jō Seibutsu Gizumo?), a science-fiction story originally known as War with the Gizmos, written by American writer Murray Leinster. It was published in Japan in 1969.
Cumaulus appeared from the beginning of the game. They are now able to cast Zap on opponents instead of Frizz and can boost their evasiveness by hiding themselves with clouds.
A monster masquerading as a cloud that floats high o'er vales and hills, blasting passers-by with thunderbolts. When the wind picks up, they get blown off over the horizon, and have to fly for miles to find their way home.
Cumaulus appears as a statue and is Treasure No. 521 in the Monster Statues 1 category. It can be found on the Wingswept Moors and its base value is 80,000 gold.
