Dora-in-Grey appears as an A-rank monster of the Inorganic family as part of the limited Dragon Quest XI event. She will join the player in Chapter 2, Episode 4 of the event quests and she can be fully awakened by completing the quest at any difficulty. Dora-in-Grey also stars in her own Battle Road.
Dora-in-Grey also appears in a Halloween dress as a S-rank monster of the Inorganic family as part of the limited Trick or Treat event on her own banner alongside Drackles. She can participate in the Halloween King's Battle Road as a party member.
In the English version of the game, Dora-in-Grey's name is a reference to the 1890 novel The Portrait of Dorian Grey written by Irish playwright and poet Oscar Wilde. The story centers around an amoral young man named Dorian Grey who sells his soul in order to remain young and beautiful, while a portrait of him painted by a friend grows old instead.
Dora-in-Grey's French name, Chiaravaggia, is a reference to the late 16th century Italian painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, known mononymously as Caravaggio. He was a controversial artist known for his intense and realistic paintings, as well as for his dramatic usage of lighting which went on to influence Baroque painting.
