The Luminous lampling is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest XI, retroactively debuting in Dragon Quest X. It is a variant of the Lampling with a white body and bluish-white flames.
Luminous lamplings have the appearance of levitating oil lanterns made of a pearly white material, holding bright blue flames in their enclosures. They have a singular yellow eye, small smiling mouths, and blushing cheeks. They tend to be encountered at nighttime and are able to burn groups of adventurers with fire spells, then drain them of their magic power. As they make their homes in wintry regions, these lamplings have some resistance against icy attacks and spells, making them unique amongst their kind. However, when they become malicious, they too become vulnerable to ice. The luminous lamplings have short lifespans, being said to represent life's ephemeral nature.

Tragically, when the pale blue flames borne by these buoyant beasties ceases to burn, they breathe their last. Though their lives are fleeting, the floating about looks fun at least
