The Mandrake monarch is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series that first appeared in Dragon Quest VII. It is a powerful purple-scaled dragon swordsman that is among the strongest of its kind.
Character[edit | edit source]
Royalty of the monster world, these dragon monarchs command a small army of creatures to do their bidding and back them up in battle. These summoned soldiers even look and sound like them, clad in the same solid armour with the same curved sword and with similar violet scales. To help their allies further and more easily overwhelm the enemy, they use the Kasap spell to drop the defences of a whole group of adventurers. In the Nintendo 3DS remake of VII, the mandrake monarch's scales were changed to a dark red with black horns and black wing membranes and it now wore silver armour in order to differentiate it from Setesh the Punisher.
