The dark skeleton is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in the original game. It is a pitch-black variant of the regular skeleton. Much like Shades and Silhouettes, they are animated shadows that attack adventurers; the difference being that the dark skeleton has retained the solid mass of its physical self.
Dark skeletons appeared from the very beginning of the game, maintaining their ability to cast both Kasap and Blunt from the last game. They can also land curses with their attacks and can use Skeletoss.
The shades of soldiers killed in combat. Beware, however—they're far more than shadows of their former selves. Some say these shadows belonged to skeleton soldiers in life, and their cheek bones do some strikingly similar.

Dark skeleton appears as an A-rank monster of the Undead family as part of the Dragon Quest I event alongside the Dragonlord's True Form on his banner. Starting with Version 2.0 of the game, it can be scouted from any limited banner, as well.
