The Great troll is a monster in the series.

Characteristics

Great trolls are purple-skinned trolls that are among the strongest monsters in a Demon Lord's armies. They wear roughspun tunics over a single shoulder and carry mighty spiked clubs in their right hands. Just like other trolls, they are capable of landing desperate attacks, but are also just as likely to waste their turns licking their clubs or simply falling over before they can land a hit. Its position as the strongest of the trolls was eventually usurped by the terror troll, though it also finds itself in battle with the Stout trolls over who is the strongest among troll society. They have light blue lips and tongues to set them apart from their fellow purple-skinned cousins. Their monster description in Dragon Quest X states that great trolls are descendants of a royal family that existed in ancient times.

Dragon Quest X

Great troll began appearing in Version 2.0 of the game. Once again they are able to land desperate attacks and will waste their turns licking their clubs in battle, as well as being able to perform Shove. Great trolls can be encountered at Zoma's Citadel during the limited "Challenge to the Archfiend Zoma" event.

Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors

A Great troll appears as the boss of Chapter 7. In the English version, he has been named Golok the Gatekeeper in keeping with the localization's theme of naming characters after types of swords. A golok is a type of blade used in Southeast Asia.
