Etymology[edit | edit source]

Foo dog is a corruption of fu dog, another term for the Chinese lion guardians frequently seen in statue form at the entrances of buildings. In Japan, they are known as shishi or komainu.

The two Foo dogs being paired with Master Kung can form a name that is based on the word "kung-fu" (Master Kung and Foo dog).
