The Sword of Shadows is a greatsword in Dragon Quest XI. It is only accessible in the postgame, being obtained after defeating Mordegon (which marks the end of Act Two). It is needed to progress past the party's visit to Yggdrasil, being able to break down Jasper's dark magic that initially lead to the party's defeat in Act One. It was created after Mordegon corrupted the Super Sword of Light in Act One and represents Mordragon's Tail in the final battle in Act Two.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The Sword of Shadows has the same attack stat as the Supreme Sword of Light. This can possibly be due to the Supreme Sword of Light being strengthened by holy power (and the power of friendship), while the Sword of Shadows is strengthened by darkness.
- The whole basis of its creation is a parallel to the overarching yin/yang theme of the game; its existence shows that light and dark are two sides of the same coin.
- Many characters comment on its unsettling appearance, and how it is much more fitting for a villain rather than a Hero.
