Name change in Japanese version[edit | edit source]

In Japanese, it was the first (and so far, only?) location in the series to have had its name change in a later remake. This was initially thought by Japanese fans to be because of legal rights issues, but according to interviews with the producers there were in fact no rights issues and they could have kept the name if they wanted. According to a later interview with Yuji Horii, the real reason for the change is that they gave the Heros mother the name of シエーラ (Shiēra - Apnea in the English localization) in the remake, and didn't want fans to confuse the two (the names are pronounced identically in Japanese aside from the last mora of ナ 'na'/ラ 'ra').
