The Armoured wartoise is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. It is a tank-like terrapin that was first introduced in Dragon Quest VI.

Characteristics

Armoured wartoises are big tortoise-like monsters with green scaly skin and covered with armour pieces. The main part of the armour is the brown and yellow tortoise shell which has holes where metallic spikes can be summoned to harm the enemies that dare touch the shell. On their heads, they also wear a helmet in the same reddish-brown and yellow as their shells and they also wear armoured plates on their knees. Along with their bulky armour for protection, they're also capable of casting Bounce to shelter allies from bothersome spells. They attack by biting foes with their powerful jaws and can even roll themselves into a deadly spiked ball by hiding themselves in their shell.

In the first two Monsters games, the armoured wartoise was considered part of the Beast family, although later installments, it was made part of the Dragon family instead, like many other reptilian monsters.
