The Fandangow is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest V.
It is an orange variant of the Cactiball reminiscent of sunset in the American southwest. Oddly enough, when it appeared in VII, it was colored blue rather than orange. This was not a mistake on the artist's part as the cerulean coloration was kept for that game's remake.
Characteristics
This burly man-shaped spiked cactus loves to bulk up for added strength with the double up skill, ditching defense to scratch out extra damage in order to try and swing battles in its favour. Their eyes constantly glare at awe struck adventurers, distracting them just enough to be able to roll right in and attack, spikes facing forward. Fandangows constantly dance to their own boisterous cactus beat, but it's so compelling that opponents often can't help but join in, spending turns just swinging away alongside the spiky seducer.
Appearances
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age
Dragon Quest Tact
Fandangow appears as a D-rank monster of the Nature family as part of the limited Dragon Quest V event. It will join the party in Chapter 4, Episode 2: The Order of Zugzwang of the event quest and can be fully awakened by collecting Fandangow Crystals from every 5th basement of the Talon Tower starting from B1 until B21. It can also be recruited from Part Two of the story in Chapter 1, Episode 2: What Happened?, as well as Chapter 2, Episode 1: The Rainbough during the limited Dragon Quest XI event at any difficulty. The fandangow can participate in Slon the Rook, Jade, and Baalzack's Battle Roads as a party member.

Etymology
The Fandangow's name is based on the fandango dance, a lively couple's dance that originated in Spain, which is fitting considering the monster's proclivity for dancing.
