The Balhib (Referred to as Gold golem in the fan translation of the Super Famicom Version)is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride, it is a winged, centaur-like monster armed with an axe and brilliant, golden skin.

Characteristics

Balhibs are absurd parodies of the classic centaur, having a reptilian lower half that terminates in a long tail and a back covered by two bat wings. They are usually portrayed as powerful monsters, having many strengths granted to them. As indicated by their original names, they are apparently made of gold and will drop a very large sum when defeated.

Introduced as a monster found around the end of the game in places such as Talon Tower and Nadiria. They have a large amount of HP, can deliver strong physical attacks, and cast Kaswoosh on the player's party. The amount of gold they drop is usually worth the risk of fighting them, though.
