The Chain mail is armour in the series. It is a low to mid-ranking piece of armour that provides an adequate amount of protection for its price.
Characteristics
The item art for the chain mail includes a long sleeveless shirt made out of interlocking chains, also known as a byrnie or hauberk, as well as a set of metal pauldrons and a gorget that goes around the wearer's neck and shoulders. Worn around the waist is a metal belt. In some illustrations, the chain mail has longer sleeves or is worn over a long-sleeved grey tunic.
The chain mail has a slightly different design in X, being a mail coat with long sleeves and lacings in the front, an orange belt worn around the waist, and lacking the shoulder pads. This design also appears in mobile games such as Stars and Walk.

Trivia
- The original Japanese name for Chain mail, Kusari katabira (くさりかたびら), refers to the Japanese term for mail armour that was used by samurai and their retainers in feudal Japan. However, the item art throughout the series history clearly depicts western chain mail that was used in Medieval Europe.
