The shellmet is a recurring piece of headwear in the Dragon Quest series that first appeared in Dragon Quest V. It appears to be the shell of a seaslime and offers a decent amount of protection to wearers at the cost of a little dignity.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride

The shellmet has a defence bonus of +7. It can be bought for 150 gold at the item shop in Coburg, found in a chest in Coburg castle's dungeon, and has a 1/64 chance of being dropped by Old man of the sea. It can only be worn by slime companions.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation

Shellmets have a defence bonus of +7 and a style bonus of +3. Nevan, Amos, Lizzie, and all slime allies with the exception of Goowain can equip it. Seaslimes drop them 1/64 of the time. They can be purchased for 250 gold in Aridea, Scrimsley, and Pescado. They can also be sold for 187 gold.
