The cannibox is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series.
Introduced in Dragon Quest III, it is a weaker version of the more common mimic and as such is usually the first container-mimicking monster encountered by the player.
Characteristics
Canniboxes, like mimics, are monstrous chests; the cannibox is probably the most convincing of the chest-mimicking monsters since it is colored like a traditional chest: brown, unlike the off-color palettes of the mimic and pandora's box.
Being a lesser variety of the mimic, canniboxes usually don't have access to instant-death moves but, rather, Desperate attacks that can act as instant-death if the target's HP isn't sufficient enough to survive. An encounter with a cannibox can usually be prevented by casting Peep on a chest to determine whether or not is a monster, though this may not help any if canniboxes wander the area like normal monsters do.

This monster does not have a vicious, nor a malicious variant.
On occasion, the respawnable treasure chests scattered around the game will be Canniboxes. They are challenging to scout.
