The Green dragon (simply Dragon in some early translations) is a rare monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in the original game, they are powerful, scaly beasts of legendary status.

Characteristics

In appearance, green dragons are quadrupedal and wingless, their underbellies an orange-brown shade. Like dragons in most other tales, green dragons are powerful, boasting impressive stamina, strength, and resilience, as well as the ability to breath fire.

Fighting the Green Dragon in the Swamp Cave.

While this monster can be found in the overworld, a specific one is guarding Princess Gwaelin in the Swamp Cave, and must be fought to rescue her. This green dragon was no different from it's brethren originally, but was given a full boss promotion in the remakes.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker

Only one wild green dragon can be encountered in the game, guarding a treasure room within Palaish Isle's shrine. It is important to save at a scout post beforehand if attempting to scout this green dragon, seeing as how it does not respawn once defeated.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2

The green dragon is a Rank D monster in Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2. One can be scouted or synthesized by mixing a boreal serpent and a skipper.

Dragon Quest Builders

Killing a green dragon will yield the dragon scale accessory which provides a +5 boost in defense.

Variants

Blue dragon

Only found in the dungeons of Charlock Castle, the Blue dragon is the "middle child" of the dragons, stronger than the Green dragon, but not quite as powerful as the Dread dragon. Due to text restrictions in the Game Boy Color remake of Dragon Quest, the Blue dragon was renamed to BlueDrgn.

Captain N: The Game Master

A Blue dragon appeared in Episode 7 "Three Men & A Dragon". He reported to The Dragonlord the arrival of some intruders (Princess Lana & Mega Man) heading to Castle Charlock.

Dread dragon

Covered in red scales with a blue underbelly, the Dread dragon (formerly Red dragon) is the mightiest quadruped dragon in the entire combined lands of the Erdrick trilogy. Along with despair-inducing stamina and strength, the red dragon can also cast simple magic.

Just as with the weaker Green Dragon, the dread dragon also receives a physical overhaul in Dragon Quest IV and beyond.

Dragon Quest

In Dragon Quest, dread dragons are found exclusively in Charlock Castle. Due to text restrictions in the Gameboy Color remake of Dragon Quest, the dread dragon was renamed RedDragon in said version.
