Introduced in Dragon Quest IV as a boss monster, he is green recolor of the restless armour charged with the task of protecting Rose at all cost. His name reflects his station, but is also a pun on "rose garden".
Roseguardin's nature is unknown; while it is possible that he is an animated suit of armor as with the monsters he shares his design with, the novel Legend in the Dark depicts him as a humanoid man with red hair and pointed ears.
Whether Psaro enlisted or otherwise created him, Roseguardin's sole purpose is protecting Rose from anyone who managed to infiltrate the small fortress she dwells in. The party must kill him to speak with Rose. Though just a palette swap of a regular knight enemy, he is significantly more powerful; moreover, he uses the Sphere of Silence to prevent the party from casting spells.
Throughout his appearance across the mainline and spin-off games, his name having the title of "Sir" or not tends to differ in some games. The games that include the "sir" title include IV, XI, The Dark Prince, and Tact. The rest of the games forgo the "sir" title from his name.
He is an optional boss in Chapter 5 that can be defeated to (re)gain the Sphere of Silence. Depending on the version of the game, Sir Roseguardin will no longer be available to battle after either the defeat of Estark or the completion of Chapter 5. The latter case is rather strange as the humans who kidnapped Rose would have had to get past Sir Roseguardin, but he will still be standing after the kidnapping already took place and is somehow completely unaware that the one he is supposed to protect is no longer present.
Sir Roseguardin is a boss encountered in the Rosehill section of the Echo Chamber. The encounter is before the chosen reach the tower, and he has been driven mad by a monster's curse. Chasing Rose and her Slime around the chamber, the Luminary knocks sense into him and returns him to normal. Aghast at his actions, he vows to leave and never return, but this farewell is interrupted by the Slime who points out that the Flute of RevelationPsaro the Manslayer uses to access the tower is now broken. A Revelatree branch is required to fix the instrument.
This loyal guardian knight has forsaken his home and past to serve his sworn master. As you might expect from observing his armoured exterior, he's rather hard-headed
In this game, to unlock Psaro the Manslayer as a playable character, not only must the player face and defeat the demon himself, but also his two Roseguardin bodyguards.
