The Missing lynx, also known as the pink panzer, is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. First appearing in Dragon Quest VII, it is a mighty pink furred feline that has both mammalian and draconic features.
Missing lynxes are powerful, large, loathsome catlike monsters that resemble a cross between a garish Great sabrecat and a deadly dragon. They have pretty pink, spotted fur with a bulky beige underside and a streak of teal hair across their backs. Their draconic features are a small set of weird wings on their back, a pair of crude curved horns on its head, and a long lashing tail. They are still classified as beasts. In battle they cast Bounce to reflect spells back right at enemies and sends a strong swirling magic wind to wrack at foes with Swoosh. Even their powerful paws can cause paralysis with their slashing strikes.
In Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2, there is an enormous variant of the missing lynx. It has a dark red shaggy coat of fur and its wings are enormous in comparison to its smaller cousins. It also has a snake for a tail.
The missing lynx is the boss of the Doubtback. It is the second Giant monster players can encounter in the game. Like the Wormonger, Lynx roams the Doubtback scaring off the smaller monsters, and can be battled. The Lynx does a huge amount of damage if provoked outside of his cave.
It can be beaten inside its cave during the day when it is asleep. The only part of it not sleeping is its tail. Tall Tail attacks and must be defeated before the rest of the boss awakens.
A four-legged fiend with teeny-weeny wings. Frightens its foes with its fangs before scratching them silly. Some say that a child once tamed one and led it around on a lead. Needless to say, the bullies left that boy well alone.
Missing lynx appears as an A-rank monster of the Beast family as part of the limited Dragon Quest VII event, appearing on Orgodemir's banner. It can participate in the Cumulus vex's Battle Road as a party member.
Missing lynx is a play on the term "missing link" and "lynx". A missing link is a term that was formerly used in human evolutionary biology for a hypothetical fossil that was believed to explain the link between apes and humans. Lynx refers to four separate species of medium-sized wild cats that live in Asia, Europe, and North America.
Pink panzer is named after the popular, long-running The Pink Panther series of films about a large and valuable pink diamond named the Pink Panther. There is an animated sequence at the beginning and ending of each film featuring a cartoon pink panther, also named the Pink Panther. Panzer is also a German word and the name of a popular tank, the word meaning armour and tank.
