The bandana is a recurring piece of headwear in the Dragon Quest series. It is the least protective piece of headwear in every game that it appears in, being just a simple piece of cloth. Although the bandana was bright red when it first appeared, later games in the series changed the color to light blue.

The bandana has a Defence bonus of +1. The iconic red bandana can only be worn by the Hero and is equipped by him at the beginning. It always shows up on his head unless he is wearing a special costume. The bandana can be used in various recipes for the Alchemy Pot, including Boxer shorts, Leather kilt, Turban, Mercury's bandana, and Dogsbody's hood.
