Appearances[edit | edit source]
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit | edit source]
Known as Retaliate in the original Sony PlayStation version, it is a hybrid skill learned by maturing as a Martial Artist or Jester, then maturing as the other vocation right after. It can also be learned by Maribel at level 5 or by mastering the Slime vocation. It costs 0 MP and, on the turn that it is used, allows the user to counter with any spell or ability that targets the user. The effect lasts from the start of the turn until the end, regardless of turn order, and allows the user to counter as many times that turn as long as they are targeted.
- Retaliate no longer exists in the Nintendo 3DS version. Maribel now learns Bang at level 9 in its place instead.
Dragon Quest Heroes II[edit | edit source]
| Game | Description |
| A swift sidestep before a stinging slap that sends enemies scattering.[1] |
Smackback can be learned by Maribel at level 12 or above with 6 skill points, costing 8 MP. When used, Maribel takes a slight step back, then smacks any enemies back in a small area of effect in front of her. It deals a small amount of damage and sends enemies flying far away from her. If Smackback is used at the right time, Maribel's body will glow and she will counter an enemy's attack as the slap is delivered, allowing long-range attacks to be countered, while melee attacks will knock down the attacker for a short period of time.
