Gigathrow is a boomerang ability in the series.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Gigathrow turns the user's boomerang into a blade of lightning, hurling it at a single enemy and dealing heavy damage. In Dragon Quest X, it throws out two lightning blades in front of the user in a straight line, dealing damage twice and having a chance to inflict paralysis.

Appearances[edit | edit source]

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit | edit source]

GameDescription
Pulverises a single enemy with the force of a thunderbolt.[1]

Gigathrow costs 15 MP to use and deals 144~176 Zap-type damage to a single enemy, with the power increasing with level. The damage is calculated as ([LVL x 2 + 125] +/- 10%), reaching to a maximum of 232~284 damage. The Hero learns it by investing 100 skill points into his Boomerangs skill.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit | edit source]

Gigathrow costs 16 MP to use and deals 107~146 Lightning-elemental damage to a single enemy, its power increasing with level. The damage is calculated as ([LVL x 2.5 + 125] +/- 15%), reaching to a maximum of 274~371 damage. Gigathrow can be used by any character that has the 'Boomerang Bible' item in their inventory from Quest #86: Brave the Caves.

Dragon Quest X [edit | edit source]

Gigathrow costs 10 MP to use, dealing two Lightning-elemental attacks to enemies in front of the user in a straight line of twelve meters. Each attack deals three times the amount of damage as a normal attack for a total of 600% damage and has a chance of inflicting paralysis for 10 seconds. It can be learned by a Minstrel, Sage, Item Master, Gadabout, Pirate, or Hermit by investing 160 skill points into their Boomerangs skill.

  • There is an enemy-only version of Gigathrow used by bosses such as Nokturnus and Daviyaga. It deals double attack damage as Lightning-elemental damage and inflicts paralysis to any characters in a straight line in front of the user with a wide area of effect.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit | edit source]

Gigathrow is an enemy-only skill used by Loss leader, Red giant, Indignus, and Darkest Despair. It deals heavy damage to the entire party and has a chance to inflict paralysis.

Dragon Quest Heroes II[edit | edit source]

Gigathrow can be learned by Maribel at Boomerang proficiency level 11, costing 14 MP to use. When used, Maribel winds up, then throws a large, lightning-infused boomerang in front of her that moves slowly in midair and attacks any enemies in its trajectory multiple times for around five seconds. If the skill is timed perfectly, Maribel will throw out two boomerangs in front of her that zigzag and then return to her. Although it incorporates lightning visually, it does not have the added effect of short circuiting monsters of the Machine family like other lightning abilities and spells.
