The Night knight is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest VII. It is a heavily armoured skeletal warrior adept at both swordplay and sorcery.
Night knights are large skeletal swordsmen wearing a set of dark blue and purple armour, wielding a round shield in its left hand and a wicked broadsword in its right hand. On their shoulders, they wear ragged blue capes with red lining that drag along the ground. They are former kings that have forced their subjects to follow them even into the afterlife. The knights are able to focus their strength and unleash grievous blows with their enormous swords. They also possess the ability to heal themselves and their allies completely with a Fullheal spell. The knights have an affinity for the cold of the grave, in some games having the ability to emit blasts of freezing air or cast powerful ice magic against their foes. When the night knights appeared in Monsters: Joker 2, they traded in their broadswords to wield a Headsman's axe instead.
Emperors of the undead who can mend friends with Fullheal, batter foes with critical blows, and smack hard with Kacrack.
Cruel kings who forced their followers to travel with them into the underworld so their kingdoms could continue.
During Quest #154: Nightmarey Questmas, the player must defeat a night knight with a phial of holy water, which deals around 20~30 damage. The quest can be repeated as many times as desired.
This cruel former king once conscripted all his subjects to construct his hellish kingdom. Now reduced to this monstrous form, all he leads is a ragtag band of zombies.
Night knight appeared as a boss that could be challenged in the Hall of Perdition starting on November 22nd, 2021 in the Undead King & Commander of the Night battle. Its special move is Bitter Blizzard, a powerful ice breath which it unleashes after a 10-second countdown unless it is interrupted or defeated first. A more powerful Breakbeast version was eventually added to the Hall of Perdition on December 19th, 2022.
