Introduced in Dragon Quest III, it is a weaker version of the more common mimic and as such is usually the first container-mimicking monster encountered by the player.
Canniboxes, like mimics, are monstrous chests; the cannibox is probably the most convincing of the chest-mimicking monsters since it is colored like a traditional chest: brown, unlike the off-color palettes of the mimic and pandora's box.
Being a lesser variety of the mimic, canniboxes usually don't have access to instant-death moves but, rather, Desperate attacks that can act as instant-death if the target's HP isn't sufficient enough to survive. An encounter with a cannibox can usually be prevented by casting Peep on a chest to determine whether or not is a monster, though this may not help any if canniboxes wander the area like normal monsters do.
A skillful mimic that disguises itself a treasure chest. It waits quietly to be discovered, then chomps on unwary travelers with its sharp fangs. Occasionally capable of landing devastating attacks.
On occasion, the respawnable treasure chests scattered around the game will be Canniboxes. They are challenging to scout. Their "evolved" form, the Mimic, replaces them for the blue "ornate" treasure chests found in the Necropolis.
Tricksters who pretend to be treasure chests in order to spring sneak attacks on unsuspecting travellers. They absolutely will not stand for running away - attempt this too many times and you're really asking for it
