Balhibs are winged, centaur-like monsters with golden skin and a reptilian lower half that terminates in a long tail, wielding a battle axe in both hands. Their upper body is that of a muscular older man with a tall pair of horns, a wild mane of long purple hair, and a bushy mustache and eyebrows. As indicated by their original names, they are made of gold and will drop a very large sum when defeated. In some games, they are considered demons.

Golden golems brought to life by a magician. They wield giant axes with ease, unleashing deadly attacks and also excelling at using themselves defensively. Half-man, half-beast, but all danger.
Balhib appears as an A-rank monster of the Inorganic family as part of the original Dragon Quest V event, appearing alongside Grandmaster Nimzo on his banner. It can participate in Slon the Rook's Battle Road as a party member. As of the latest update in the Japanese version, it can be scouted from any banner, including the Regular SP Scout.
The word balhib is a term used by medieval Egyptians to refer to the Great Sphinx of Giza, a statue depicting a sphinx, which is a mythological creature that had the head of a man and the body of a lion.
