Captain Brownbeard is a character in Dragon Quest Builders 2, who serves to ferry the player between the various islands of the game.

Appearance and Personality edit

The captain is a middle-aged man with busy facial hair, large lips, and unusual eyebrows. He bears a passing similarity of the merchants of Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation, wearing a turban with a large gem set as the fastener, an open vest, and large baggy pants. The gem on his turban is purple, like in all other games, but his vest is red with yellow lining and he wears a white t-shirt underneath it.

Captain Brownbeard first appears befuddled at the strange circumstances taking place on the Isle of Awakening, but quickly adapts to the situation and comes to see the other characters as his friends.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 edit

The captain disembarks on to the Island of Awakening soon after the player speaks to the Hairy Hermit. Upon speaking to the Builder, he explains that he became lost while sailing an unfamiliar route and stopped at the island to find supplies.

Brownbeard is no fighter, but he does volunteer the use of his ship to aid the Builder and Malroth. When venturing onto an island, Brownbeard will stay by the ship and not move from the spot until the player returns. After the events of Furrowfield, he will offer his services in exchange for gratitude points, in which the Builder can exchange gratitude to unlock new islands. Brownbeard calls these new islands "Explorer's Shores". He will not charge for new story islands, DLC islands or islands that the Builder has already unlocked. After completing the main story, talking to Brownbeard unlocks the Buildertopia, an island that the Builder can build on to their heart's content. If the Builder completes every scavenger hunt on the Explorer's Shores, completes all 45 Tablet Targets and visits the Buildertopia at least once, upon talking to the Captain he will reveal that he found a box of crayons and could now keep track of three Buildertopias at once.

It is later revealed that the world that the Builder and Malroth are exploring is nothing but an illusion created by Hargon. The only people in the entire illusory world that are from the real one are the Builder, Malroth, Lulu, and Brownbeard.

Etymology edit

His name, quite literally, means "captain with a brown beard". Other European language translations reflect this.
