Explorer's shores

The explorer's shores are mystical islands in Dragon Quest Builders 2. They are randomly generated based off a biome found in a story island, offering its blocks, materials and monsters.
Overview[edit | edit source]
Captain Brownbeard first offers the Builder this service on the Isle of Awakening after the events of Furrowfield. Perry talks to the Builder and says that he would like to eat something other than cabbages and sends the Builder off on a mission to find chickens on other islands, and when the Builder goes to talk to Brownbeard, he says that he figured out how to go to these islands.
These islands have certain characteristics:
- Each island costs a certain amount of gratitude points to unlock (Captain Brownbeard says that this is his form of payment for his boat services). Afterwards, the Builder can freely travel to the same explorer's shore at will.
- Each island is randomly generated. Size will remain roughly the same for all islands, but the generated chunks/tiles are different.
- Each island is based on a certain biome found in story islands, containing blocks, materials and enemies that are related to it.
- Islands of a certain biome are able to be unlocked only after the completion of its respective story island.
- Each island has two checklists of blocks, items and/or animals made by Brownbeard that the player can find and check off. These lists are denoted with a raw material in the top-right corner. The player only needs to be touching the item, and press the "confirm" button to check it off the list. Upon completion of a list, the Builder unlocks the ability to use its respective raw material for free while crafting. This is shown with an infinity symbol (∞) where the possessed amount of an item should have been instead.
- Using the Echo Flute will result in a stream of rainbow musical notes that lead the Builder to the nearest unchecked thing.
- Each island always generates a "Builderdom's Best" build, which were creative builds that won the Builderdom's Best challenge in the original Dragon Quest Builders game. At these places, players can scout human NPCs that wander around it, but can only take one back per island. These residents have randomly-generating visual features but set clothes and set roles depending on the island.
- There are always a set number of Large or Super Strong Monsters (varies depending on island) which might drop rare loot, unlock new recipes upon being defeated, or want to be tamed.
- The game cannot be saved while on these islands. When the Builder leaves the island, the island is more or less gone forever, along with any dropped items or builds on it.
It is possible to visit explorer's shores in multiplayer mode, and visitors can help fill in the checklists.
There are eight diffferent explorer's shores in the base game, plus an additional location in the Hotto DLC and another island in the Aquarium DLC.
Islands[edit | edit source]
Soggy Skerry[edit | edit source]
Soggy Skerry costs 50 gratitude to unlock. It is the first island the Builder unlocks, as Blossom Bay costs too much for the amount of gratitude the Builder is provided. Residents of the villager description in the residents' register will spawn here.
