The low djinks is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first introduced in Dragon Quest VI. It is a cloud-riding genie that can control the wind.
The low djinks is depicted as an overweight green-skinned genie riding a gray cloud, wearing a purple vest and poulaines, a white turban decorated with a red gem and feather, baggy white pants, and a brown sash holding a scimitar over its hip.
In battle, the low djinks appears when released from the malevolantern. Its moveset is centered around wind magic, including the defense-ignoring Wind Sickles attack; the Backdraft buff, which reflects breath attacks; and the common Swoosh spell.
In ancient times, these sorcerous spirits were imprisoned within lamps. Now free, they celebrate by bending the wind to their will. They still bear a grudge about their captivity
A wicked spirit recently released from a cursed lamp. Whips up whirlwinds to send foes flying. His protracted imprisonment has made him unusually attached to his lamp, and he constantly carries it with him.
Low djinks appears as an A-rank monster of the Demon family as part of the limited Dragon Quest VI event. He will join the party in Chapter 4, Episode 1: What Mindini Stole of the event quests and he can be fully awakened by completing the level at any difficulty. Low djinks also stars in his own Battle Road.
The Low djinks's name is a pun that plays on the romanized version of the Arabic genie, djinn, and the phrase 'high jinks', meaning to have fun in a boisterous and chaotic kind of way.
Its Japanese name, rendered with kanji as ランプの魔人, translates to "genie of the lamp".
