Succubat

From Dragon Quest Wiki

The Succubat is a monster in the series.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Succubats are anthropomorphic bat monsters with purple skin, large wings with lavender membranes as arms, large bat ears, and long tails with a tuft of white fur at the ends. They also have white fur around their heads and necks, as well as around their hips and ankles, making it look like they're wearing shorts with leg warmers. At the center of their forehead is a heart-shaped nose. Their eyes have pitch-black sclerae with a yellow pupil in the center. As befitting their namesake, the species is exclusively female. The succubats use their feminine wiles to charm unsuspecting victims in the dark of night, then tear them apart with the sharp claws on their feet. They have an affinity for casting darkness spells, as well.

Appearances[edit | edit source]

Dragon Quest X [edit | edit source]

Succubats were added in Version 5.2 and are encountered in the Netherworld. They are able to cast Kazammle and can perform Eerie Light, Blow Kiss, and Puff-Puff.

They may look a lot like lovely ladies, but these beastly creatures actually evolved from bats. They love nothing more than luring night-time travellers off the road with the alluring light their eyes emit.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The succubat's name is derived from the succubus, a female demon described in various folklore that takes the form of a beautiful woman to seduce a man in his dreams, draining his life force not unlike a vampire.
  • Their name in Japanese くらやみハーピー (Kurayami hāpī,, Dark harpy?) is a reference to the harpy, a female monster from Greco-Roman mythology often depicted as birds with the heads of maidens, said to steal food from their victims and carry off evildoers so they may be punished. Depending on the piece of media, harpies are either depicted as more birdlike or more human-like with only some avian features.
