The '''Tortured soul''' is a monster in the series. Originally appearing as the boss of the [[Ruined Abbey]] in {{Dragon Quest VIII}}, it has become a regular monster in other games.
==Characteristics==
Tortured souls are [[Undead family|zombified]] priests with jaundiced yellow skin that wear robes and a miter in various shades of purple and magenta trimmed with gold. On their right hand, they wear a ruby ring and carry a tall staff topped with a cracked skull which they use to focus their magic. It attacks by sending blasts of shadowy energy with its left hand. Their sunken eyes glow purple and they are missing a few teeth from their skulls. The former abbot is able to call forth more undead compatriots to aid it in battle, as well.
