The Corpse corporal is a monster in the series.
Characteristics[edit | edit source]
Corpse corporals are undead monsters with a deathly pallor, red eyes, and unkempt straw-coloured hair while wearing a raggedy red tunic with a black belt and brown or dark green trousers. In the Super Famicom versions of V and VI, the corpse corporals had a completely different colour scheme, with bluish-grey skin, white hair, and wearing maroon clothing. In its original appearance in II and the Builders games, the corpse corporal has sickly, jaundiced yellow skin, light brown hair, and a green tunic worn with blue trousers instead.
They are often able to debilitate the party in many ways, from enveloping them in illusions, poisoning them, inflicting paralysis, or placing curses on unfortunate adventurers. In some games, they are able to emit a Spooky Aura that leaves their victims more vulnerable to magic.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit | edit source]
Corpse corpral appears as a C-rank monster of the Undead family. It can be recruited from Chapters 7-3, 9-2, 9-7, 11-4, 14-3, 14-6, 14-7, and 15-2 of the main storyline. Corpse corporal also appears as an enemy in the Passage to Rendarak during the original Dragon Quests II event, where it can be fought in the 2nd, 7th, and 12th basement floors. It can participate in the Ghost and Gremlin's Battle Roads as a party member.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The corpse corporal's Japanese name リビングデッド (Ribingu deddo, Living dead?) is likely derived from George A. Romero's 1968 horror film Night of the Living Dead, which is credited with popularising the portrayal of zombies in modern culture and went on to create a successful franchise of films.
