<center><small>For the MFamilies class in 'Dragon Quest VII', see Mimic (vocation).</small></center>
The Mimic is a monster in the series.
The Mimic is a recurring MFamilies in the DQSeries.

Introduced in Dragon Quest III, they are monstrous treasure chests of a sickly color.
Characteristics
Mimics are powerful monsters that disguise themselves as treasure chests made out of olive green wood with silver borders. Its mouth is filled with razor-sharp fangs and hides a set of eyes and a long purple tongue. In battle, it attempts to send hapless adventurers to the hereafter with instant death spells, drain their magic power, or put them to sleep with their sweet breath before performing vicious biting attacks and is able to land desperate attacks, as well. They often disguise themselves as ordinary treasure chests to try and fool adventurers, but in some games, they can be encountered normally.

Characteristics
Mimics are based on the monster of the same name from the tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, first appearing in the original Monster Manual from 1977. It is a shapeshifting monster that often takes the form of ordinary objects, such as treasure chests, doors, and other objects to effectively lure adventurers. They frequently appear in other media, such as fantasy video games, tabletop games, anime, and manga.
Essentially, Mimics are advanced forms of Canniboxes. Where the lesser form typically uses desperate attacks, the Mimic will cast sudden-death spells in an effort to outright kill a party member, though it normally only has enough MP to perform the spell once. Usually lying in wait under the guise of a normal treasure chest, some installments and/or remakes of the series have had Mimics as random encounter MFamiliess.

Mimics appeared from the beginning of the game. Like before, they are able to land desperate attacks, put characters to sleep with their Sweet Breath, use Weird Dance, and cast Whack, as well. Mimics will disguise themselves as blue treasure chest in mid-level areas of the game.
*Starting with Version 5.0, vicious mimics can be encountered in the Netherworld. Their behaviour is still the same, but they are much stronger than an ordinary mimic.

The Mimic is a monster in the series.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Mimics are powerful monsters that disguise themselves as treasure chests made out of olive green wood with silver borders. Its mouth is filled with razor-sharp fangs and hides a set of eyes and a long purple tongue. In battle, it attempts to send hapless adventurers to the hereafter with instant death spells, drain their magic power, or put them to sleep with their sweet breath before performing vicious biting attacks and is able to land desperate attacks, as well. They often disguise themselves as ordinary treasure chests to try and fool adventurers, but in some games, they can be encountered normally.

Dragon Quest X [edit | edit source]

Mimics appeared from the beginning of the game. Like before, they are able to land desperate attacks, put characters to sleep with their Sweet Breath, use Weird Dance, and cast Whack, as well. Mimics will disguise themselves as blue treasure chest in mid-level areas of the game.

 • Starting with Version 5.0, vicious mimics can be encountered in the Netherworld. Their behaviour is still the same, but they are much stronger than an ordinary mimic.

Mimics are among the ranks of the Platiosi in the Plob, appearing in numerous stages as standard chests until approached. They can provide interesting roles in tank battles by either fetching ammo for the player or infiltrating the enemy tank to rattle the enemy by imitating a chest.
