The '''scale shield''' is a recurring shield that appears in the ''[[Dragon Quest (series)|Dragon Quest]]'' series, first introduced in [[Dragon Quest IV]]. It is a typically low-ranking shield that is made from scales.

The scale shield was added in the 1996 remake. It has a defense bonus of +12, and can be equipped by the [[Hero (Dragon Quest III)|Hero]], [[warrior]]s, [[priest]]s, [[merchant]]s, [[gadabout]]s, [[Thief|thieves]] & [[sage]]s. It can be purchased for 600 gold coins, and sold for 450.

The scale shield has a defense bonus of +7, and can be equipped by all characters except for [[Alena]] & [[Maya]].  [[Hank Hoffman Jr.]] & [[Oojam]] have it among their equipment. It can be purchased for 180 gold coins and sold for 135.  [[Tessie]] will sell this at [[Torneko's shop]] for 270.

The scale shield has a defense bonus of +7. They can be bought for 180 gold in [[Roundbeck]], [[Fortuna]], [[Lodestar Harbour]], [[Zoomingale]], and [[Gotha]]. The [[Hero (Dragon Quest V)|Hero]], [[Bianca]], [[Nera]], [[Hero's Son (Dragon Quest V)|Son]], [[Hero's Daughter (Dragon Quest V)|Daughter]], [[Harry]], [[Sancho]], and [[Tuppence]] can equip it.
