The Sphere of Light is an important magical item in the Dragon Quest series during the Erdrick trilogy.

Dragon Quest[edit | edit source]
As the story opens, the Dragonlord kidnaps Princess Gwaelin and steals the Sphere of Light, depriving Alefgard of its light and allowing him to unleash monsters upon it. Upon his defeat the Sphere of Light falls into the possession of the Hero and marks the end of the main story.
Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit | edit source]
The Sphere of Light is obtained from the Dragon Queen at her castle and is instrumental in defeating Zoma. It removes the protective magical barrier around him. It is technically optional, although defeating Zoma without it is extremely difficult.

Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below[edit | edit source]
Gragwort gives the Heroes team the Sphere of Light at the beginning of their confrontation with Zoma, thus allowing them to dispel the protective barrier around him. Even without this barrier, Zoma is one of the most difficult boss battles in the game.
