The Hunter mech is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series.
Introduced in Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line, it is a weaker version of the Killing machine that often hints to the presence of Metal slimes being in the immediate area.
Characteristics
Hunter mechs are similar to killing machines: they are quadrupedal, one-eyed robots armed with a crossbow and sword. Their color scheme is the only real change in appearance, with hunter mechs sporting a scheme of golds, grays, and purples. Their darker gray areas are more of a dull teal color in their earlier appearances.
As the lesser creature, Hunter mechs are typically weaker than Killing machines and tend to lack some of the stronger's qualities, such as resistances and the ability to strike more than once per round. They do serve a great purpose in that they tend to appear only in or around areas where metal monsters, such as Metal slimes and Liquid metal slimes, are known to appear. It should be noted that Hunter mechs do not always appear where there are metal monsters: in fact, most titles in the series to feature the monster only have them occurring in single, closely located areas.
In its original appearance the Hunter mech did not have a sword and was missing a quiver to hold its crossbow bolts. This was changed in later installments.
Appearances
