In the game, he is the adoptive father and tutor of [[Purrcival]], a young [[Tigercub]] who aims to be a samurai. Purrvis does not like being called "father" in public, but he does love the fact that Purrcival sees him as a paternal figure. He originally wanted to return Purrcival to his true parents, but unable to find them he ended up taking care of the cub, and teaching him the way of the sword. He can participate in Purrcival's Battle Road as a party member and eventually returned as a boss during the limited ''Dragon Quest IX'' event alongside the rest of the Triumgorate.

Goresby-Purrvis is one of the Triumgorate that serves the House of Gitt. Though loyal to King Godwyn, he still considers the Hero to be a worthy opponent. After Corvus was freed from his shackles and ascended to the Realm of the Almighty, he revived the Triumgorate to guard his new stronghold. Though he held no loyalty to Corvus, he was willing to battle the hero again.

Later, after the spirit of King Godfrey emerged from the Quarantomb, Gorseby-Purrvis' ghost returned to Gittingham Palace and asked the hero to put the former king's spirit to rest. After that, Purrvis presented a Pallium regale and several alchemy recipes as a reward.
