For the Dragon Quest IV enemy formerly localized as "Orc", see Pickayune.
The Orc is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first introduced in Dragon Quest II. It is pig-headed monster wearing a green tunic and wield a spear. Their fur and clothing are dyed new colors as they advance upwards in their species' society, creating some putridly porcine pigment permutations.
Contrary to common depictions in fantasy literature, movies, and video games that originated from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings series of books, the orcs of Dragon Quest are boarish beastmen rather than green-skinned humanoids. The common folk of the orcish tribe, they dress in simple green clothing and carry crude spears as weapons; in their original appearances the orcs actually lacked their signature spears, choosing to fight barehanded, but eventually gained them in remake versions of II.
Orcs appeared from the beginning of the game, maintaining their ability to perform a Multithrust with their spears from VIII. Starting with Version 5.0, vicious orcs can be encountered in the Netherworld, as well.
These hulking hogs take their training seriously, and practise Multithrust about a million times a day. But despite this diligence, the wild boar blood in their veins means they're far from mild-mannered.
