Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride edit

The tortoise shell has a defense bonus of +33 and can be purchased for 2,500 gold from Lodestar Harbour, Zoomingale, Mostroferrato, and Gotha Castle. It can only be worn by Sancho and several monster companions.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation edit

The tortoise shell has a defence bonus of +33, but reduces style by 15. It may be equipped by Nevan, Amos, and all of the slime recruits. The tortoise shell can be purchased from Aridea and Howsworth for 2,500 gold and sold for 1,875. It can also be dropped by marrow escapees, armoured wartoises, and plated goretoises.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past edit

The tortoise shell has a defence bonus of +33, but it reduces style by 15. It can only be equipped by Ruff and it can be purchased in La Bravoure, Al-Balad's Palace, and Gröndal for 3,800 gold and sold for 1,900. Tortoise shells can also be won from the Lucky Panel at the Casino.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King edit

The turtle shell (known as the tortoise shell in the 3DS version) has a defense bonus of +37. Only Yangus and Morrie can wear it. It can be purchased from Neos and the campsite west of Argonia for 2,300 gold and sold for 1,150 gold.
