The brownie is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series that was introduced in Dragon Quest V. It is a pint-sized monster carrying around a giant hammer much bigger than itself.
Brownies are yellow-skinned palette swaps of hammerhoods, bearing an orange-brown colouring and wielding a dark, grayish blue hammer. Comparatively, brownies aren't too different from hammerhoods, the two monsters essentially having the same purpose as being mostly incompetent creatures that occasionally get off a lucky shot. Brownies tend to have more HP and greater attack power since they have to fulfill this role against players that are no longer troubled by hammerhoods.
Brownies appeared from the beginning of the game. In addition to being able to psyche themselves up to build their tension, they have gained the ability to perform a Spinning Beatdown, which damages any characters in a circular area of effect around itself. Starting with Version 1.1 of the game, it gained a rarefied version in the form of the Spiked club.
These mallet-wielding midgets are massive fans of night clubbers, whose every trait they try to emulate. One day, maybe one of them will grow tough enough to actually take one of their idols' clubs in hand.
These miniature marauders never hold back with their hefty hammer attacks, meaning that if they miss their targets, they tend to tumble head over heels

Brownie appears as an E-rank monster of the Beast family. It can be recruited from Chapters 6-3, 6-5, 7-5, 8-7, 13-1, and 15-3 of the main storyline, as well as the Rhinoceraxe Nun stage of The Beastliest Beast of Bravas Qualifiers during the Beast Fest event at any difficulty. The Brownie stars in its own Battle Road and it can participate in the Dark sabrecub's Battle Road as a party member, as well.

Trivia
Brownies are a part of English and Scottish folklore. They are household spirits, being diminutive little helpers who assist in house maintenance in exchange for small offerings of food. They do not like to be seen, and usually only perform their tasks in the quiet of night.
