The Great dragon is a monster in the series.
Characteristics
Great dragons are large, golden-scaled dragons with a large pair of wings on their back, a long tail, and horns. They are often able to breathe out devastating fire or ice breath, use their claws, fangs, and tails in powerful attacks, while their scales grant them a high degree of protection against the elements. Due to some similarity in colouration and head shape, it is theorised that they are the adult stage of the Small fry, despite the small fries themselves possibly being in their adult stage already. Their monster description in X states that they are popular even amongst dragonkind, with small fries aspiring to become a great dragon in the future.

The Great dragon is the last monsters in the Dragon family that can be synthesised without using a specific combination. They are necessary for synthesising other monsters such as the Mechan-o'-wyrm and Black dragon. One appears as a boss in the temple on Celeste Isle.
In episode 5 of the 2020 anime series, "The Insignia of Avan", a pair of great dragons can be seen when Hadlar calls his Dark Army in front of the Sovereign Rock Castle.
Great dragon is a S-rank monster of the Dragon family that can be scouted normally from any banner. It can participate in the Gasbagon's Battle Road as a party member. In the Japanese beta version of the game, the great dragon appeared on its own banner along with Slimecicle.
