Characteristics edit

The bronze knife has had several different designs through the series history.

  • The knife's original design from Dragon Quest V was made entirely of bronze and had a curved guard, similar to a quillon dagger used as a sidearm by knights from the 12th to the 17th centuries.
  • The design introduced in Dragon Quest VII is similar in shape to the Roman gladius and has a leaf-shaped blade. It also has cloth wrapped around the grip.
  • The bronze knife from Dragon Quest VIII has a greenish colour similar to patina that forms on copper alloys such as bronze and has a red grip. This design has been used in most modern games, with the colour of the knife occasionally being changed to bronze instead.

It is a very basic knife that can be wielded by characters who cannot carry heavier weapons, such as mages.
