The terror tabby is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest VIII.

It is a lethargic cat capable of putting entire parties of adventurers to Sleep with their abilities.

Characteristics edit

Terror tabbies are rotund cats with orange fur and black stripes all over their bodies. They have a tuft of red fur on top of their heads and a long, lolling tongue that trails out of their mouths. Like their feline cousins, the terror tabbies are easygoing monsters with a tendency to completely space out in the middle of battle by cleaning themselves or rolling around on the ground. Unprepared adventurers can suddenly be sent to dream land with the terror tabby's hypnotic attacks or their Kasnooze spell. In later appearances, the tabbies also gained the ability to cast fire magic against their enemies.

Etymology edit

  • The Japanese name appears to a portmanteau of bero (ベロ), the Japanese word for tongue, and Goronyaago (ゴロニャーゴ), a children's television program in Japan featuring a cat character.
