The great helm is a recurring helmet in the Dragon Quest series that debuted in Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride. In most of its appearances it is one of the most durable helmets in the game, and appears to be based on the Galea helmets of the Roman empire.

The great helm was added in the 1996 remake and has a Defence bonus of +45. The Hero and Warriors can equip them. They can be sold for 26,250 Gold coins and bought for 35,000.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride

The great helm has a defence bonus of +45. It can be bought for 20,000 gold coins in Precaria. The Hero, his son, Sancho, and Tuppence can equip it.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation

The great helm has a defence bonus of +50 and a style bonus of +30, but it can be upgraded to have a style bonus of +47. The Hero, Carver, Amos, Terry, Lizzie, and Goowain can equip it. It can be bought in Greedmore Valley for 25,000 gold coins and sold for 18,750 or 22,500 once it has been upgraded.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past

The great helm has a defence bonus of +45 and a style bonus of +30. The Hero and Aishe can equip it. It can be bought for 45,000 gold coins and sold for 22,500.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined

The Great Helm boosts the maximum HP by 20 points and the defence by 50 points. The Hero, Aishe, and Sir Mervyn can equip it. This helmet can only be obtained from a chest in the cave to another world.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King

The great helm has a defence bonus of +45. It can be worn by the Hero and Yangus. It can be bought for 16,000 gold in Tryan Gully and sold for 8,000 Gold Coins.
